Your ideas submitted to the Transport Masterplan

May 3, 2012News

Ideas put forward by drivers on how to improve Sydney buses formed part of the RTBU’s final submission to the NSW Long-Term Transport Masterplan.

RTBU Branch Secretary Alex Claassens launched the submission at an event attended by Chris Preston and Gary Way at the Sydney Mechanics School of Arts on Tuesday.

“Everyone has a theory about what’s wrong with NSW transport,” said Mr Claassens at the event. “ Transport workers, however, understand the State’s transport system better than anyone.”

Mr Claassens also said that increasing the number of workers on the transport network had to be a priority for any plan moving forward.

“The population of NSW is growing, but transport services are not keeping pace with this growth.  NSW will need more train and bus drivers, more station staff, more maintenance workers, more cleaners, and more security workers on the transport network,” he said.

Submissions have now closed to the Masterplan process and the government will now be reviewing all contributions and developing a final plan to be released in November.

The RTBU will be keeping a close eye on the process to advocate for a robust plan that supports workers and will deliver a world-class transport system.
