RTBU urges Premier Berejiklian to overturn Newcastle privatisation
The Tram and Bus Division have taken proactive steps under the new Berejiklian Government to urge the new premier to overturn the privatisation of transport in Newcastle.
With a new agenda based around enhancing local infrastructure, the Union feels there is no more important infrastructure that public transport. The union told the premier that public transport is a critical public asset that should be operated for pubic benefit.
Additionally, the Union raised concerns that the new operators Keolis Downer, which are majority owned by the French government, would effectively mean that profits from Newcastle transport will be revenue lost overseas.
