Newcastle bus driver safety in spotlight

Protections for bus drivers will be discussed in state Parliament on Thursday.

Wallsend MP Sonia Hornery said Hunter drivers had flagged fears about the number of assaults, concerns highlighted following the death of Queensland driver Manmeet Sharma last November.

Ms Hornery, who plans to debate a notice of motion on the issue, said drivers’ concerns were pertinent in the Hunter as bus services will be privatised as part of a transport overhaul of the region. Read more in the Newcastle Herald
