More on-demand buses cancelled as NSW Government scheme fails

May 15, 2019Uncategorized

As the RTBU Tram and Bus Division have been warning, the NSW Government’s scheme is proving to be anything but successful. This week it’s been revealed that another two on-demand buses will be cancelled next week.

After starting about 18 months ago, a trial at Manly operated by Transdev, and another run by Hillsbus at Carlingford in the city’s north west, will cease from May 24. Late last year trials at Punchbowl and Wetherill Park in Sydney’s west also ended.

RTBU NSW Tram and Bus Divisional Secretary, David Babineau said, “The Transport Minister can try and spin it as much as he wants, but the evidence shows that these new on-demand services are a failure. Given that there are no minimum patronage numbers in the evaluations, it’s hard to see how you can benchmark it’s performance but from a financial perspective it’s clearly not working.”
