More action needed to ease CBD congestion

Oct 19, 2012News

Plans to redirect buses coming into the Sydney CBD from the Hills District to the Cahill Expressway is a good start towards dealing with huge congestion issues in the city but much more is needed.

Division Secretary Chris Preston said any sensible initiatives to ease traffic congestion in the city, particularly around Wynyard and down George St would be welcome, but there is much more that the government could be doing.

“Every morning drivers and commuters find themselves in a conga line of buses across the Harbour Bridge as they battle their way off the bridge and through to Wynyard.”

In morning peak times cars should be directed away from Grosvenor St and made to enter the city from the Cahill Expressway or from the west to free up easy passage to Wynyard for buses.

This is just one of many initiatives that could be implemented to see short term improvements to the grid lock drivers currently face.

We need to see decisive action by the NSW government to increase transport capacity into and through the city. For too long we have seen plans come and plans go, its time to see a genuine solution to this issue now.
