Why did you become involved in the union?

I wanted to have a go at making a difference in the workplace. I’ve been working on the light rail for 13 years now – when I first started I was young and didn’t know much about unions at all. But after I was approached by the delegate at the time I realised how important the union is, and I have since taken a relief delegate position and as of February 2015 I took over the delegate’s position.

What do you like most about your job?

I’ve spent the past eight years as a tram driver and prior to that I was a conductor for five years. I really like driving trams. I love seeing all the kiddies and their parents as I pull up to the station. When the kids wave to me and I wave back their smiles brighten up my day! I also like being out and about and on the road.

Describe your perfect day off?

I’d have my perfect day off nowhere near work. I’d either go to my friend’s horse paddocks, take my three dogs for a walk or go bushwalking. I’d be surrounded by animals and in nature – that’s the perfect day off for me.

Beyond fighting for workers’ rights, what are your other passions?

My passions are animal welfare, environmental conservation, and advocating for equality. I also have an avid interest in physical outdoor activities, especially canyoning, rock climbing, and hiking.
