One of the labour movements biggest days of the year is only three weeks away!

May Day remembers the battles that our movement has already fought, and the mateship, camaraderie and the determination to build the freedom and rights we enjoy today.

This year’s celebration marks 125 years since Australia’s first May Day March held in 1891 by striking shearers at Barcaldine in Queensland.

While we have fought for and won so much as a movement, we can’t forget the ongoing struggles that we still face today.

The RTBU will again be taking part in the May Day March, and we encourage all members to get involved and send a clear message in an election year that the worker’s struggle continues and is more important than ever.

Other states have made May Day an even bigger event, and this year, New South Wales will be showing them how it’s done.

Unions NSW is holding a fair day, with rides, food stalls, and live entertainment.

The Transport Unions Federation, made up of the RTBU, TWU and the MUA, will be sponsoring the dodgem cars – so make sure you show the truckies what a real driver is like!

Bring along family, friends and kids to ensure the next generation of workers continue to celebrate and cherish such an important day for workers worldwide
