Light rail at snail’s pace?

May 27, 2015News

It seems that if you’re looking for a quick journey from Circular Quay to Central Station, you’d be better off catching the train than the soon to be developed light rail.QVB_carousel_04-06-2014_2

The Daily Telegraph is reporting today that it will take more than twice as long to travel on the light rail than it does to catch the train to the same destination. Click here to see the article.

Earlier this week, Opposition leader Luke Foley criticised the light rail plan, saying that he is in favour of the Randwick to Central line, but not the George St line.

The Opposition leader called on the Baird Government to drop its light rail proposal, saying that the project will have a detrimental impact on the local economy.

The light rail project has caused much controversy recently, with reports that a former state treasurer believes building the line will be $2 billion badly spent, and that the new Transport Minister Andrew Constance has told Sydney business owners that his hands are tied on the construction project because the contract was signed prior to him taking over to portfolio.

What’s you take on the George St light rail plan? Do you think it’s a good idea?
