Former fan turns on Newcastle Light Rail
Former Newcastle Mayor, Jeff McCloy has reversed his view on light rail for Newcastle, despite previously fighting for its construction.
Describing the plan as a ‘recipe for disaster’, Mr McCloy said the city would be better off with a properly designed bus service, a view supported by the RTBU.
Mr McCloy points to population as being the major problem.
“We haven’t got enough people living in and around town, unlike other cities where light rail works. Without the population, no matter how much is spent, it will never work,” Mr McCloy said.
