Peter Haylan from the Prostate Cancer Foundation meets with Servet Ildes from the Leichhardt Depot, and Assistant Branch Secretary Dave Woollams.

A recent visitor to the Leichhardt depot served as a reminder to drivers that a yearly prostate exam is vital for maintaining proper running order.

Peter Haylen from the NSW/ACT Prostate Cancer Foundation is visiting all depots and discussing his personal experiences with prostate cancer.

Mr Haylen said that early detection is vital in ensuring that the disease can be managed quickly.

With prostate cancer often overlooked by men of all ages, the facts can be confronting:

  • 3,000 men die every year in Australia from prostate cancer.
  • More men die because of prostate cancer than women die of breast cancer.
  • 1 in 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer by the age of 75– which is even higher if you have a family history.

Statistics show that you, your father, your brother, your best mate, or your son, will likely have to deal with prostate cancer.

With such a high incidence, it is vital that men get checked and seek treatment.

Further information is available from your GP, or from the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
