Debate rages over Gladys’ double-decker plan – tell us what you think

Mar 25, 2013Updates

Transport Minister Gladys Berejikian has announced more double decker buses will begin service in coming weeks, run by private companies.

Two will run on route 270 between Terrey Hills and the CBD. Another five will run on routes M61 and 610X from Castle Hill and Rouse Hill via the M2 to the city.

The Minister is claiming feedback from drivers has been positive.

Due to the lack of consultation with the union and its members, the RTBU is yet to offer support to the trial.

The union executive have received feedback from members who are sceptical about the potential success of operating double-decker buses in central Sydney and its congestion.

The union also has concerns about the speed of passenger loading. Given bus operators’ focus on running times, the union has concerns an extra deck may have an effect.
