Reported by the Daily Telegraph: Two boys were airlifted to hospital, one with serious head injuries, after two school buses crashed south of Wollongong yesterday afternoon.

Forty students aged from seven to 16, all from Illawarra Christian School, were on board when the buses collided on Tongarra Rd, Albion Park.

A seven-year-old boy, who was reportedly thrown from one of the buses and suffered serious head injuries, was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney by ambulance rescue helicopter. A 10-yearold boy was also airlifted, with injuries to the stomach and leg.

Four other children and one adult were taken to Shellharbour Hospital with injuries, including bruising and fractures and a further two children were taken to Wollongong Hospital with minor injuries.

Police said the bus drivers were being taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

In a statement, the school said two Premier Illawarra buses were involved in the accident; one headed to Shell Cove and the other to Warilla.

Police from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command are investigating the cause of the crash.
