Journey Beyond Road Trauma

Oct 11, 2011News

We were all shocked and saddened by the tragic death of a nine-year old boy last week who ran into the path of an oncoming bus on the Central Coast.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of the young boy, and to the bus driver who is absolutely devastated by the incident.

This awful incident again reminds us of how difficult and stressful bus driving can be.  There are times when all of us need help and support.

As it happens, two dedicated SES volunteers are this week undertaking a massive 4,000 km motorbike ride from Pakenham in Victoria to Toowoomba and back to raise awareness of road safety, and to promote a very worthy community initiative called Journey Beyond Road Trauma.

The SES volunteers, Peter Morrison-Dowd and Shayne Honey, were inspired to make their ‘Ride Beyond the Trauma’ journey after attending hundreds of fatal road accidents.

JBRT was created in 2009 as an online social network for all those affected by road trauma, enabling them to share their personal stories and to support each other.

It is an extremely valuable network for family and friends of accident victims, the emergency service workers who deal with the aftermath of road incidents, and anyone else who has been affected.

For more information about the JBRT go to the website http://journeybeyondroadtrauma.org/, or the facebook page www.facebook.com/JourneyBeyondRoadTrauma .
