$5,000 fines announced for spitting on essential workers
The NSW Government announced a $5,000 on-the-spot fine over the weekend for anyone who spits on an essential worker.
“Frankly, it’s disgusting in any circumstance but in the middle of the current health crisis it cannot be tolerated. Everyone has the right to go home safely from work and not wonder if they are bringing a potentially fatal disease home to their loved ones,” said RTBU NSW Tram and Bus Division Secretary David Babineau.
TfNSW protocol is for police to be called to the scene of an incident and not just for a report to be filed after the event. Drivers are encouraged to repot incidents as they occur. The $5000 fine is an on the spot penalty and does apply to underage offenders.
