24hr light rail stoppage as drivers stop work over safety concerns

Jun 20, 2016News

Light Rail services have stopped for 24hrs, between 12am Monday 20 June until 12am Tuesday 21 June.

Despite more than nine months of negotiations, Transdev is still refusing to take drivers’ concerns seriously.

While Transdev put two last minute, inferior offers to drivers last week, both of which were rejected by members due to safety concerns.

The union went back to the company with a counter offer, but is yet to receive an adequate response from the company.

We’re hopeful that Transdev will agree to listen to drivers’ concerns and come back to the negotiating table. Drivers don’t want this protected action to impact on commuters, but their safety and the safety of passengers is too important to ignore.

The 24hr protected industrial action, which drivers unanimously voted to take, follows a uniform free day and a 4-hour stoppage in recent weeks.
