Latest on KDH bargaining and upcoming FWC hearing

Aug 1, 2025

The RTBU Bargaining Committee had a caucus on July 30th, 2025. As we indicated last week, KDH is still refusing to provide reasons for rejecting more than 40 of our proposed clauses. The only response we’re getting is a flat “no”.

Despite this, your Bargaining Committee has demonstrated good faith by streamlining nearly half of our claims, showing that we are committed to reaching a fair, negotiated outcome. It’s also worth noting that we’ve seen some encouraging movement from the company, and it now appears they may finally be willing to engage in meaningful negotiations.

While KDH continues to withhold proper justification for many of their rejections, we remain optimistic about reaching an agreement. We are still waiting on further information from the business before we can finalise the log of claims.

On Monday 4 August 2025, the Bargaining Committee will appear in person at the Fair Work Commission, following KDH’s claim that the union is not bargaining in good faith.

There were initially some issues with ensuring committee members were released from rostered shifts to attend the hearing, despite relief staff being available. Fortunately, this has now been resolved. The Commission has asked that the full committee be present in person, and that is now in place.

Due to another FWC hearing involving KDNB earlier that day, our matter won’t be heard until 2:00pm, so communications may be delayed. However, union meetings will be held later in the week to update members on the outcomes of the hearing.

Again, we ask that you all remain strong, vigilant, resilient and united.
