Tram and Bus Express: News and views from life in the bus & tram lanes No images? Click here Member Update: 8 May 2020Dear members, It's been another busy week in the Tram and Bus division as we look to ensuring all our drivers are safe and sheltered in their position as frontline workers. We hope you saw some loved ones as the NSW Government allowed visitations from two adults. We know it's been tough. As we see the light at the end of the tunnel and look to easing conditions, it's now really important that there are plans in place for when everyone gets back on public transport. The last thing we want is a round two of infections. With schools going back next week, there will be a lot more required to put these plans in place. We are currently in discussions with TfNSW about managing increased loads for trams and buses as restrictions are relaxed. This week the division continued its focus on getting safety screens for drivers enlarged. We are going through the prototypes from the STA and from TfNSW and we will get back to you with updates. The first of our volunteer made masks have also been delivered to us and anyone wanting them should see their local delegate. They are washable and instructions for application and care will come with them. Additionally, both the TWU and the RTBU are appealing the initial decision of the Fair Work Commission on the RTBU application to change its rules. A full bench of the Fair Work Commission will consider this matter on the 20th of May 2020. We want to thank all of our members for their continuing hard work and dedication in this time of great need from the community. You are the unsung heroes during a crisis and we are very proud of your ongoing commitment and dedication. Community continues support for bus driversDrivers at the Waverly depot were the latest to acknowledge and thank the community for their support during this time. The Tram and Bus division has been flooded with messages of support from the community with more than 600 emails sent to bus drivers in the past month. Bus drivers are essential workers and it's clear now more than ever. The division is very proud of the work members are doing and continue to do in this unprecedented crisis. COVID-19: FAQsWe are constantly updating the COVID-19 frequently asked questions section of the website, so please make sure you head there and have a look. If you still have questions, please don't hesitate to contact your local delegate or the Division office at nswbus@rtbu-nsw.asn.au. Thanks again for continuing your essential work during this time of crisis. Stay safe. In solidarity, David Babineau and Daniel Jaggers |
